Afrobeats is now more than ever marketable to the international music markets. The gerne has now become the most valuable export service for Nigerian and Ghanaian music.

This year has so far been monumental for Afrobeats thanks to different music collaborations that came out.

Halfway into the year, we’ve already seen the globe’s biggest stars such as Ed Sheeran, Chris Brown, J Balvin, and Future work with some of the most talented Afrobeats stars.

Some of the best Afrobeats song releases so far this year are s follows:

  1. Rema – Calm Down

Divine Ikubor popularly known by his stage name Rema rose to stardom with the release of the song “Iron Man”. The 22-year-old Nigerian afrobeat star has quickly established himself as one of the most prominent artists on the continent.

His song Calm Down which was released in February has already exploded globally and has become theRema Rema’s biggest song of his rising career. The song has so far been viewed more than 118M on his YouTube channel.

 

2. Burna Boy: ‘Jagele’

Burna Boy is the star shaking up the afrobeats as his music career keeps on growing. Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Burna Boy has been blazing up the Afrobeats genre with his songs continuing to blaze a trail across the world.

The 30-year-old also comes from a musical background; while both he and his sister Nissi are singers while his mother, Bose Ogulu, handles managing. His fans are familiar with Ogulu, who made an appearance at the BET Awards 2019 and accepted the award on behalf of her son. Burna Boy’s mother’s speech later became one of the most talked-about moments.

3. Lojay and Sarz: Monalisa Remix (ft. Chris Brown)

Renowned Nigerian music crooner, Lojay alongside Sarz output the remix of their hit track, “Monalisa”. This remix features the American Pop/RnB musician, Chris Brown, who contributed massively to this song.

Lekan Osifeso Jr. is a fast-rising star in the Nigerian music scene whose debut single, Ariel, was released in 2019. The 26-year-old singer is known professionally by the moniker, Lojay. 

4. Omah Lay: ‘Never Forget’

Multi-Talented Artist and Songwriter popularly Known as Omah Lay comes through with yet another new hit track titled “Never Forget”.

The 25-year-old Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer gained widespread recognition in early 2020 after his self-produced single “Bad Influence” went viral on social media.

 

5. Rema: ‘Soundgasm’

Rama’s album, Rave and Roses, is arguably the most cohesive project of the year so far, so it should come as no surprise that two songs from the album make it onto here. ‘Soundgasm’, which fittingly first came out alongside ‘Calm Down’ as a precursor to the album a month before it dropped, sees Rema playfully and sensually teasing his lover as he whispers sweet nothings into her ear.
