The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards were held on Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and were emceed by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow.
The British star Harry Styles won the award for album of the year in absentia but was just down the road performing at Madison Square Garden in New York.
He is the only British nominee to take home a major prize with the album of the year. Styles however appeared in a video message thanking his fans for voting for him to win album of the year.
The 28-year-old apologized to fans for his absence at the show despite being “just down the road” performing.
“Thank you so so much for this award,” he said in a video message. “I know this is a fan-voted award, I’d like to say thank you to all of my fans who voted, thank you so so much, I obviously wouldn’t be holding this if it wasn’t for you.
“I’m sorry I can’t be on stage with you tonight, I’m about to go on stage just down the road, but I hope you’re having a wonderful evening.”
While the awards were taking place, Harry Styles was performing his concert where the lowest tickets to enter Madison Square Garden was going for $263.00 and the premium floor seat was costing as much as $7875.00.
The British solo artist shows were sold out almost instantly when they became available online. But fans looking to get to one of his shows are in luck because sites like StubHub, VividSeats, and TicketNetwork have plenty of seats available.
Harry Styles Love On Tour 2022 is now in full swing in New York for 15 nights from August 20 – September 21. It is reported that per the British artist’s request, flags, signs, and banners are permitted for his shows.
Madison Square Garden is now Harry’s House as the English singer, songwriter, and actor kicked off his 15-night residency in support of his third solo album, Harry’s House.
Before his concert in New York, thousands of his fans gathered to take pre-show pictures, clad in flamboyant outfits that both draw inspiration from and pay tribute to Styles.

On Saturday night (Aug, 20), Harry Styles made a single request of his 20,000 fans who were expected to attend his first of 15 Madison Square Garden Shows.
“I ask only one very very simple thing — I need you to have as much fun as you can have,” he said.
“I challenge you to have as much fun as I’m gonna have.”
