Kanye West captions Wizkid and Tems’ ‘Essence’ the best song ever

Revered American rapper and fashion mogul, Kanye West otherwise Known as ‘Ye’, has declared ‘Essence‘ by Afrobeats stars, Wizkid and Tems as the best song ever. He made this public on Sunday via a post on his Instagram page where he posted the track cover captioning it “The best song in the history of music to date.”

The song which was released on October 3oth 2020 from Wizkid’s critically acclaimed Made in Lagos (MIL) album was declared the official summer track of 2021 making its way to the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and debuting at No.1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-hop Airplay chart. It also got nominated for the Best Global Music Performance at the 64th Grammy going on to win the BET Award for the Best Collaboration and recently received an RIAA Gold certification after selling over 500,000 copies in the United States.

The collaboration with the pop star, Justin Bieber on the remix of the song additionally earned the track more popularity and was performed by both artists at Jay Z’s #MadeinAmerica Concert.

On hearing the news, fans of the singer who casually go by the name “Wizkid FC” as well as music enthusiasts have gone on social media to express their joy and air opinions. A follower commented: “There’re over 6000 languages in the world and Ye just decided to speak facts. Big Wiz,” another wrote, “IF YE SAYS ITS THE BEST SONG ITS THE BEST SONG.

Others have also urged Kanye West to collaborate with Wizkid and more Afrobeat artists. The rapper joins the list of popular entertainers who have publicly commended the song. Nigerian-American rapper, Wale had argued that the project should have won “multiple awards” at the Grammy Awards.

Trinidadian-born rapper, Nicki Minaj also stated that the song deserves to be the song of the year at the last held Grammys. In other posts, Kanye also shared his favourite songs, he included Beyoncé’s Church Girl, which he claimed to be his favourite song off her latest Renaissance album. He also tagged Dj Khaled’s God Did as the song of the year and Anthony Jeselnik’s Thought and Prayers as one of his favourites.
