This is what happened to Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems.
Her story sounds like fairytale but it is a true story.
Tems is a talented Nigerian music artist, singer-song writer and upcoming music producer with a unique and infectious voice that is hard to truly describe.
Once you hear her voice you just become addicted to her music. Tems exceptional musical talent basically pushes you to find out more about her.
This an African music artist that is certainly going to introduce the Afro beats and blues to the western world in the near future.
In her New EP “If Orange Was a place”, she sings about her mysterious voice that is shaking the world of music.

One year down the road since she released her EP, Tems became popular in such a way that her face is all over billboards not only in Africa but also in the United States among other places.
So many beautiful and crazy things have happened in her life in just a short period of time. It is even hard for her to really comprehend the changes from being an unknown figure to becoming a global celebrity.
“I am trying to take my time to be grateful of all the grace and blessings”, said Tems.
The 26-year-old told Apple Music YouTube channel that God has rained everything she could ever imagine in her life.
The Nigerian upcoming superstar is radiating with joy as she remembers the time when her mother was still pushing her to go to college.
This was the time she released her earlier single “Try me” and “Mr. Rebel”. At that time she was still establishing herself as an artist.
Now that the EP is out and has done so well, it is clear to everyone that the only thing Tems is going to do with her life is music.
“It is really exciting to be able to consistently create music. That is where the joy lies”, said Tems.
One of the highlight in her young career in 2021 was collaborating with Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid.

The song “Essence” was globally celebrated and so far it has been viewed more than 72 million times on Wizkid YouTube channel.
Tems said that her successful collaboration with Wizkid was not anticipated.
“We were just making music and it suddenly turned out such a huge thing. I am so excited about the future”.
Tems makes her music in freestyle and by the time she was collaborating with Wizkid, he played the music’s beat in the studio and it suddenly become her favorite. She immediately wanted to try it and the end result turned out to be a big outpour from all over the world.
Another surprising event that happened to her in 2021 is when Justin Bieber, one of the world’s biggest popstar got on the remix of the song “Essence” she collaborated with Wizkid.

“I was shocked and didn’t know what to say. It was very sweet,” reacted Tems.
Tems recently told her fans all over the world that a lot of music is soon coming from her.
“The excitement is much. The music is here and it is already here”
She concluded by saying that it is soon going to be crazy.
Tems was born in Lagos, Nigeria and moved to the UK with her British-Nigerian father and Nigerian mother. After her parents’ divorce, she returned to Nigeria where she discovered her talent to write songs and poems.
“I used to write poems a lot – I’ll just sit down and write things I’m feeling, and it’ll come out so poetic, even if I’m just talking about food’, she laughs.
