Yesterday (3rd January), The Weeknd revealed his fifth studio album, ‘Dawn FM’, will drop on Friday 7th January.
The much anticipated upcoming record is the follow up to 2020’s ‘After Hours’, which was The Weeknd’s second album to reach number one on both the UK Official Album Chart and the US Billboard 200 Chart.
The ‘Starboy’ singer took to Instagram on New Year’s Day to tease fans with the album’s announcement. Entering the new year on a high, The Weeknd shared a screenshot of a text message conversation between himself and La Mar Taylor, co-founder and creative director of XO Records.
The message from La Mar read, “Happy New Year brother! What we thinking?”, to which The Weeknd replied, “Happy new year! Everything feels chaotic again. Music can heal and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people… XO.”
Following the initial Instagram post, the Canadian singer, whose birth name is Abel Tesfaye, shared atmospheric album visuals captioned, “New album : Dawn FM // January 7th.”
‘Take My Breath’, the first single from the album, was released in August 2021 and received overwhelmingly positive praise from respected publications, including NME and The Guardian.
