This past week ushered in some hot new projects that cannot be unmentioned as many have become some of our favorites and left listeners glued and fixated on their speakers. From DJ Drama unlocking three new Gangsta Grillz releases to Gucci Mane dropping his first project of the year, here are some projects that have caught our attention.
Taylor Swift – Midnights
Award-winning singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift released her 10th studio album, Midnights at midnight on October 1st. The deeply reflective album contained a total of 13 songs that tugged between self-hatred, doubt, and narcissism, with tales of troubled relationships and the ever-present longing for escape.
The 44-minute-long album was co-written and produced with Jack Antonoff and Zoe Kravitz. It includes songs like Lavender Haze where Swift talks about her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, the self-loathing Anti-Hero, and Snow on The Beach featuring Lana Del Rey where she describes the beautiful sensation of love.
Jeezy & DJ Drama – SNOFALL
Long-time collaborators Jeezy and DJ Drama also came through with a new album titled, SNOFALL. As usual, it was like the meeting of the titans. Though it has been ten years since the duo came together with their 2022 project It’s Tha World, their link-up on SNOFALL still feels like a breath of fresh air.
Jeezy as one of the founders of trap music is used to working with top-rated artists, so it’s no surprise that the 17-track project contains guest appearances from Lil Durk, Est Gee, and 42 Durk.
Snoop Dogg & DJ Drama – Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It
DJ Drama appears once again but this time with a follow-up to his Gangsta Grillz series called Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It. On the mixtape, both music acts show that they remain at the top of their game and “still got it.”
The 13-track project features guest appearances from Dave East, Juicy J, Trinidad James, and Snoopy’s long-time associates Daz Dillinger and Kurupt. It also boasts production from the likes of Rick Rock, Nick Papz, Don Cannon, Hollywood Cole, and even Snoop himself under his production alias Dr. Bombay. On I’m From 21st Street featuring Stressmatic, DJ Drama raps about starting Gangster Grillz at the age of 21 and how he’s still got it 21 years later.
Gucci Mane & So Icy Boys – So Icy Boys 22
Gucci Mane also dropped his first project of 2022 titled So Icy Boys 22. Having released a whole swat of singles this year with a variety of big names in the industry, the project is a compilation of his previously released tracks alongside a few new singles like Issa Photoshoot, Understanding featuring Big Scarr, the enchanting Break Out Dat Cake with Seth and the Big Fizzle assisted Chief. The compilation boasts a total of 56 swerving listens.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again – Ma’ I Got A Family
YoungBoy Never Broke Again returned on Thursday night with a new album, Ma’ I Got a Family hosted by DJ Drama on his 23rd birthday. The 19-track project includes songs like Pop Out, McQueen, Kentrell Talk, and King of The Jungle.
It features guest appearances by Nicki Minaj on I Admit and Yeat on I Don’t Text Back. The new full-length project also marked DJ Drama’s third Gangsta Grillz release after Jeezy’s SNOFALL and Snoop’s I Still Got it.
