American veteran rapper Snoop Dogg and the renowned DJ Drama have released a joint mixtape titled “Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got it.”
The project marks the second mixtape of the rapper-producer collaboration following 2008’s “The City Is In Good Hands” amidst several other collaborations like 2009’s “Day Dreaming” with Akon and T.I, the “That’s My Work Series,” and “Tha Blue Carpet Tha Mixtape.”
The new mixtape follows DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz mixtape series which saw early successes with T.I’s Down With the King (2004) and Jeezy’s Trap or Die (2005).
The 13-track project features guest appearances from Dave East, Juicy J, Trinidad James, and Snoopy’s long-time associates Daz Dillinger and Kurupt. The mixtape lives up to his name as both artists show listeners that they are still at the top of their games and “Still got it.”
The mixtape starts off with DJ Drama talking to Snoop Dogg on the phone as he says: “Heyo Snoop let’s do another Gangster Grillz” Snoop Dogg replies affirmatively while Drama responds “I Still Got it.”
The project proceeds to I’m From 21st Street featuring Stressmatic where DJ Drama raps about starting Gangster Grillz at the age of 21 and how he’s still got it 21 years later. The mixtape highlights some of the current talents on Death Row Records — the legendary West Coast record label Snoop purchased earlier this year with cameos from singers Jane Handcock and October London.
It also boasts production from the likes of Rick Rock, Nick Papz, Don Cannon, Hollywood Cole, and even Snoop himself under his production alias Dr. Bombay.
Prior to the release of the mixtape, the 51-year-old rapper and Gangsta Grillz general had teased the project by posting a screenshot of their facetime session on Instagram. “Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It” marks Snoop Dogg’s second full-length project of 2022 following the release of his 19th studio album Bacc on Death Row in February.
Snoop recently announced he’s working on a new album with Dr. Dre called Missionary, the spiritual successor to 1993’s Doggystyle while DJ Drama has released other Gangsta Grillz projects this year including Symba’s Results Take Time, We Set the Trends by Jim Jones, and D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape by J. Cole and Dreamville.
